政府は人間の集団

もし人間生来の性質がそれほど悪であり、人々を自由にさせておくのが安全でないのなら、どうして政府関係者の性質はつねに善だといえるのか。議員と官僚もまた人間ではないのか。自分たちは他の人間よりもきれいな土でできているとでも信じているのか。
# 「市場は万能でないから政府に任せよう」などと主張する人は、バスティアが百六十年以上も前に指摘した、この自明の理がわかっていない。政府は神でも天使でもない、人間の集団である。もし市場に携わる人々が利己的ならば、政府を構成する人々も同じく利己的である。問題はどちらの制度が利己心を善に転じることができるかである。(木村)
If the natural tendencies of mankind are so bad that it is not safe to permit people to be free, how is it that the tendencies of these organizers are always good? Do not the legislators and their appointed agents also belong to the human race? Or do they believe that they themselves are made of a finer clay than the rest of mankind?
